What is “Xenos”?

“Xenos” is the Greek word for stranger. There are many stories within the Bible that emphasize the importance of hospitality and welcoming the stranger. One of these stories is a parable told by Jesus. In Luke 10, Jesus gives the commandment of loving one another as the greatest commandment. However, a lawyer questions him asking “Who is my neighbor?” Jesus responds with the parable of the Good Samaritan. This story tells of a man who was attacked by robbers and left on the street. Though the man was Jewish, his own people had passed him on the street. Then, a Samaritan saw him and took him in. Jesus asked the lawyer who had been a neighbor to the man who had been attacked. It was obvious that it was the Samaritan, though this parable broke a stigma in the Biblical world. Jews and Samaritans did not associate with each other, but Jesus taught the people of his day that his commandment to love one another subverted the rivalries they had created with one another.

What is the mission and vision of Xenos?

In accordance with the Parable of the Good Samaritan, the mission of Xenos Youth Ministry is to provide a space where truly all are welcome. This is a space where students can ask questions, express their doubts, and find comfort and peace in knowing that there is a God and a community who loves them unconditionally.

The vision of Xenos is to break boundaries within the Christian community and to tear down any walls that our culture has created with each other.

Who is welcome at Xenos?

Any student from 6th grade-12th grade is welcome.
